Veteran actor Pete Edochie has issued direct appeals to President John Dramani Mahama to rescue Ghana's fading film industry.
Nollywood legend Pete Edochie has issued direct appeals to President John Dramani Mahama, urging government intervention to save Ghana's movie industry from total collapse.
Speaking on the decline of local film production, the veteran actor delivered a direct message to state leadership regarding the sector's struggles.
"Your Excellency, sir, don't let our industry die in Ghana," Edochie pleaded during his address.
He expressed strong confidence that President Mahama would react favorably if filmmakers presented structured investment proposals.
"If I say, Your Excellency, sir, don't let our industry die in Ghana, he will respond," Edochie stated.
The celebrated actor proposed a financial challenge model to test the industry's execution capacity.
"Support us, sir. Challenge us with this amount of money. Let's go and shoot films. Give us so-and-so time, we shall return the money," he urged.
Reflecting on past golden years of Ghanaian cinema, Edochie praised the standard of local acting talent.
"Ghanaian actors, generally, are very, very good. Exceptionally good. But, I don't find more films from Ghana as it was previously, and I don't know what the problem is," he noted.
Edochie urged regional stakeholders and private investors to collaborate directly with government institutions to restore Ghana's cinema culture.
