Lasmid Fires Back Over Massive Disrespect to Ghanaian DJs

Afrobeats sensation Lasmid calls for a national conversation to properly honor Ghanaian DJs, warning that their vital contribution to music is being unfairly overlooked.

Ghanaian music star Lasmid has issued a passionate plea for the industry to give local disc jockeys the recognition and respect they truly deserve.

Taking to social media platform X, the "Friday Night" hitmaker expressed concern that the priceless role DJs play in breaking new songs and driving Ghanaian music culture is being taken for granted.

"Ghanaian DJs deserve their flowers," Lasmid wrote in an emotional post.

"I grew up listening to DJs who made artists feel bigger, made songs travel further, and gave people the soundtrack to their lives," he shared.

Reflecting on his own rise to stardom, the singer credited local radio and club DJs for laying the foundation of his successful career.

"A lot of what I am today was shaped by those moments," Lasmid acknowledged.

"Sometimes I feel we've become too comfortable taking that contribution for granted. I'm not calling anyone out," he clarified.

"I just think it's time we had a real conversation about how much DJs mean to Ghanaian music and how much more they deserve."

Lasmid’s public defense of DJs comes during an intense industry debate over music promotion methods in the digital age.

Critics and commentators have argued that traditional media and DJs are becoming obsolete, replaced by social media influencers, streaming playlists, and viral TikTok trends.

Despite those claims, events like the annual Guinness Ghana DJ Awards continue to highlight the massive cultural impact of DJs across the country.

Lasmid’s intervention serves as a strong reminder that behind every hit song, a dedicated DJ played a crucial role in bringing it to the fans.
