Ghanaian boxer Freezy Macbones dethroned Nigeria's Godday Appah in Lagos to claim the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight title.
Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah has officially been crowned the new WBO Africa Light Heavyweight champion.
He achieved the landmark victory after defeating Nigerian fighter Godday “Zodsolo” Appah in Lagos on Thursday, October 1.
The high-stakes championship bout served as the main event for the "Chaos in the Ring" promotion at the Federal Palace Hotel.
Competing on foreign soil, the 37-year-old Ghanaian delivered a remarkably disciplined and composure-filled performance throughout the 10-round contest.
Appah entered the ring as the home favorite, aiming to secure the continental belt in front of a passionate Nigerian audience.
However, Gyimah asserted his dominance early, using precise combinations to keep the former champion on the defensive.
Despite a brief mid-fight rally from Appah, Gyimah regained full control in the closing rounds to secure the decision victory.
Ringside judges officially scored the bout in favor of Gyimah, officially bringing an end to the Nigerian boxer's title reign.
Reflecting on his triumph, the UK-based Ghanaian expressed deep joy at claiming a major continental title after starting his boxing career at age 27.
The victory marks a career-defining achievement for Macbones, who is expected to defend his newly acquired title later this year.
