The arrival of the MT Asharami Ghana with 5,000 metric tonnes of LPG at Tema Port marks a key step in strengthening national gas supply and energy infrastructure.
Ghana’s national drive to improve access to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has received a major boost following the arrival of the MT Asharami Ghana, a specialized vessel carrying approximately 5,000 metric tonnes of LPG at the Tema Port.
The massive 40,000-cubic-metre gas carrier docked at a critical time as the government intensifies strategic efforts to reinforce the country’s energy infrastructure and secure a stable, continuous supply of cleaner fuel for households and commercial enterprises across the country.
Speaking at an official ceremony held in Tema to welcome the arrival of the vessel, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, highlighted that sustained investment in modern LPG infrastructure remains essential to guaranteeing Ghana’s long-term energy security. He noted that expanding domestic storage and delivery capacity directly supports national plans to transition toward cleaner energy alternatives, reduce reliance on traditional fuels, and safeguard environmental health.
The arrival of the vessel is expected to enhance local distribution networks, alleviate supply bottlenecks, and stabilize gas availability nationwide. Officials from the energy sector noted that partnerships with international vessel operators and energy logistics companies will continue to play a pivotal role in maintaining consistent fuel imports, supporting local businesses, and advancing Ghana’s green transition goals in the coming years.
