Nana Akosua Nkyekyerenkye III and local leaders step into classrooms to teach students for five consecutive days during the ongoing national teachers' strike.
In an extraordinary act of community leadership, the Queen Mother of Abosamso in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Akosua Nkyekyerenkye III, has taken up teaching duties to prevent students from falling behind amid the ongoing nationwide teachers' strike.
Demonstrating remarkable dedication to local education, the traditional ruler spent five consecutive days—from Monday to Friday—in the classroom.
She was joined by the area's Assembly Member, Francis Opoku, alongside dedicated members of the local education committee.
Together, the team took turns teaching core subjects, holding interactive revision sessions, and directly assisting students with their daily academic work.
The grassroots initiative was carefully designed to ensure that school-going children remain productively engaged rather than sitting idle at home during the industrial action.
Addressing the students during one of the sessions, Mr. Opoku urged the learners to stay motivated and maintain academic discipline despite the sudden educational disruption.
He encouraged them to review previous lessons taught by their regular teachers and stay focused while negotiations between government officials and teacher unions continue behind closed doors.
"The community leaders would continue supporting teaching and learning until teachers return to the classroom," he assured the gathered students.
Heartfelt appreciation was expressed by the students to Nana Akosua Nkyekyerenkye III, Mr. Opoku, and the committee members for their timely rescue effort.
The students noted that the intervention provided crucial structure, hope, and academic continuity during an uncertain period for the district.
The unusual community-led effort underscores the critical role traditional rulers and local representatives can play in safeguarding youth education during national crises.
