Former NPA Chief Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid narrowly missed a Vice Chairmanship slot after falling just 31 votes short.
Former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has missed out on an NPP Vice Chairmanship position.
He finished fourth in a fiercely contested election held during the party's National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
Dr. Hamid polled 2,956 votes, trailing just 31 votes behind Nana Akomea, who secured the third slot with 2,987 votes. Kojo Fosu Boadu won the First Vice Chairman post with 3,116 votes, while Henry Nana Boakye took Second Vice Chairman.
The outcome represents a dramatic shift from pre-election polling that had previously projected Dr. Hamid as the favorite. A September 2026 Global InfoAnalytics poll had placed Dr. Hamid at the top of the race with 18.3 percent preference.
In contrast, eventual winner Kojo Fosu Boadu had polled at fourth place with just 5.6 percent in that same survey. Dr. Hamid has built a long career in public service, having previously served as Minister for Information and Zongo Development.
He later headed the NPA until January 2025, bringing extensive academic and executive experience to his national campaign. Despite the narrow loss, the election completes the NPP's new executive team led by National Chairman John Boadu. The newly elected national officers will now take charge of restructuring party operations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
