Minority Leader Launches Furious Attack on NDC for “Terrorizing” Opposition!

Afenyo-Markin accuses the NDC government of weaponizing the law against political opponents, urging NPP delegates to stay resolute ahead of the 2028 elections.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has launched a scathing attack on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the administration of weaponizing the judicial system to intimidate and brutalize political opponents.

Addressing delegates at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Annual National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the Effutu lawmaker cautioned that using legal apparatuses to silence critics threatens the nation’s democratic foundation. He emphasized that the bench must remain strictly independent and loyal solely to the Constitution, rather than serving as an instrument for any political agenda.

"When the law becomes a whip for brutalizing and terrorizing the opposition and a shield for cronies of the NDC government, then it is not law anymore—it is a tool for instilling fear," Afenyo-Markin declared. He warned that political intimidation never stops with its initial targets, cautioning that unchecked executive overreach will eventually target journalists, lawyers, traders, and ordinary citizens expressing opinions online.

The Minority Leader asserted that the governing party's strategy is designed to leave opposition ranks exhausted, broken, and fearful. Turning his attention to economic management, he slammed the NDC administration for failing to deliver on key promises like its touted 24-hour economy initiative. He also highlighted mounting public frustration over soaring electricity tariffs, losses in state gold sales, and reduced payouts for local cocoa, rice, and maize farmers compared to earnings under the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

Reflecting on the party's core ideology, Afenyo-Markin invoked former U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt’s D-Day prayer, urging delegates to maintain courage and internal discipline. He reminded the crowd that the NPP's founding principles were forged through the sacrifices of political icons like J.B. Danquah and Kofi Abrefa Busia.

Concluding his address, the Minority Leader called for unwavering internal solidarity, rallying party faithful to choose unity over self-interest as the parliamentary caucus continues fighting to rebuild and reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.
