Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has been formally charged with conspiracy, causing financial loss, and money laundering

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been formally charged with conspiracy, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.

The criminal charges were filed at the High Court’s Specialised Jurisdiction Division in Accra following an investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to state prosecutors, the case arises from a transaction involving SIC Life and the recovery of funds tied to an investment arrangement.

Investigators allege that the lawmaker played a key role in arranging settlement terms that led to significant financial loss for the public institution.

A third count on the charge sheet specifically alleges that the MP transferred GH¢1 million to the former Managing Director of SIC Life.

State prosecutors claim the money was derived from legal fees and transferred with the intent of assisting the recipient to evade legal consequences.

The prosecution further asserts that investigators found no prior board approval or authorization for the settlement terms signed in connection with the transaction.

In response to the charges, legal counsel for the lawmaker, Samuel Atta Akyea, firmly rejected all allegations of criminality.

Atta Akyea argued that his client’s involvement was strictly professional legal work carried out to recover judgment debts for SIC Life through established legal processes.

The MP has pleaded not guilty to all charges, maintaining his innocence as the high-profile legal proceedings move forward.
