Kwame Agbodza drops warning to engineers supervising politically connected road contractors

Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has urged engineers supervising government road projects to exercise professional independence without fearing politically connected contractors.

Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has urged engineers supervising state road projects to exercise strict professional independence.

He charged site engineers to hold all contractors accountable to agreed quality standards, regardless of their perceived political connections or influence.

Speaking to project supervisors, Agbodza highlighted a prevailing culture where engineers hesitate to enforce standards out of fear that well-connected contractors might retaliate.

He firmly dismissed those fears, declaring that no contractor holds greater authority than the qualified engineer assigned to oversee the project site.

"I don't think there is any contractor closer to me or the president who has got the licence to do the wrong thing or delay any project," Agbodza stated.

He instructed engineers to strictly enforce technical guidelines, emphasizing that even if a contractor were closely related to leadership, standards must remain uncompromising.

The Minister stressed that public infrastructure projects must be delivered according to specified technical parameters, approved timelines, and strict quality benchmarks.

He warned that political figures should not continue to bear the blame for substandard infrastructure caused by lax engineering supervision on project sites.

Agbodza urged technical teams to abandon timidity, step up site inspections, and ensure taxpayers receive full value on all road construction investments.

Ministry authorities confirmed that supervision protocols across national road corridors will be tightened to ensure full compliance with construction standards.
