John Mahama has met Egyptian President el-Sisi at the AU Summit, pledging to strengthen defense, health, and urban development ties between both nations.
Former President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the sidelines of the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit to advance key economic and security partnerships.
The high-level engagement reflected the historic Pan-African ties first established by Ghana's founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and Egypt's former President, Gamal Abdel Nasser.
During the meeting, President Mahama expressed Ghana’s appreciation to Egypt for its consistent support regarding Ghana’s diplomatic advocacy for UN reparations.
To boost health sector collaboration, both leaders agreed to streamline registration procedures to facilitate the smooth entry of Egyptian pharmaceutical products into the Ghanaian market.
On regional security, the two heads of state pledged to deepen military ties through enhanced intelligence sharing, capacity-building programs, and joint counter-terrorism efforts under the Sahel-Gulf of Guinea Accord.
Looking toward future infrastructure development, Mahama highlighted plans to leverage Egypt's urban planning expertise as Ghana explores conceptual designs for a new administrative capital city.
The strategic dialogue underscores a mutual commitment to accelerating trade, security cooperation, and continental integration between both nations.
