Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson tells TUC leaders that the government is pivoting from macro-stabilization to job creation and business support under its New Economy agenda.
Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the government is officially pivoting its economic strategy toward job creation and targeted support for local businesses after achieving economic stabilization.
Speaking during a high-level engagement with the leadership and members of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Forson explained that the administration has reached a critical turning point that allows for a direct focus on microeconomic growth and the delivery of decent jobs.
He noted that the administration's policy blueprint originally prioritized stabilizing the macroeconomy before embarking on full-scale structural transformation.
"If you look at the NDC manifesto, you will notice that we said we will spend half of our time to stabilise the economy, and after we lock in the economy and stabilise it, we move towards the microeconomic," Dr. Forson stated.
He stressed that the next phase of the government's flagship New Economy agenda will place workers, commercial enterprises, and sustainable employment at the center of national growth efforts.
According to the Finance Minister, the primary objective of this new phase is to generate quality jobs while systematically lifting the living standards of Ghanaian workers.
"That is where we are going now, and so you will see us moving towards the microeconomy, where jobs, decent jobs are created," he emphasized.
Responding to the presentation, the General Secretary of the TUC, Joshua Ansah, welcomed the New Economy framework, expressing confidence that the policy shift will deliver expanded employment opportunities and better wages for the workforce.
