Bawumia unveils new strategy on selecting NPP parliamentary candidates today

NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has unveiled plans to scout viable parliamentary candidates capable of winning seats in 2028.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced a major strategic shift in how the party selects its parliamentary candidates.

Speaking to party executives and delegates following the national elections in Kumasi, Bawumia outlined plans to scout and back candidates with genuine winning potential.

The strategy aims to prevent situations where candidates win internal primaries through financial influence but lack broader appeal among general electors.

According to Dr. Bawumia, internal primaries must prioritize candidates who possess strong grassroots connection, public credibility, and proven appeal across local constituencies.

He emphasized that securing a majority in Parliament remains crucial to executing the party's legislative agenda and winning executive power in 2028.

Under the proposed plan, party leadership will actively monitor constituency dynamics to identify viable community leaders and popular local figures.

The move comes as the newly elected national leadership team, led by National Chairman John Boadu, begins comprehensive party restructuring.

Dr. Bawumia noted that early preparations and strategic candidate placement will give the party a decisive advantage across competitive electoral districts.

He called on local executives to support transparent scouting processes that put party victory above individual financial capability.

The initiative reflects the NPP's broader drive to rebuild grassroots structures and present a formidable front ahead of the 2028 general elections.
