Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has slammed the government over drug trafficking, worsening galamsey, and unfulfilled economic promises at the NPP delegates conference.
At the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia delivered a fiery address attacking the current administration over growing national security issues and a trail of failed promises. Raising sharp alarm over drug trafficking, the flagbearer warned that Ghana is gaining international notoriety as illicit shipments slip through national borders unnoticed and end up being intercepted in European ports. He demanded an immediate public, bipartisan parliamentary probe to expose the powerful financiers backing these smuggling operations.
Addressing environmental concerns, Dr. Bawumia called out the government’s record on illegal mining, known as galamsey. He noted that despite high-profile pledges to eradicate the practice within months and restore polluted water bodies, illegal mining operations have grown embarrassingly worse under the administration’s watch. He urged political leaders to treat galamsey as a serious national challenge rather than exploiting it for political slogans.
The former Vice President extended his critique to social and economic policies, highlighting what he described as major failures in education, healthcare, and agriculture. He cited the stalling of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, deteriorating meal quality under the Free SHS program, and the deliberate exclusion of basic education graduates. Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia labeled promises made to cocoa farmers regarding higher prices as deceptive scams, alongside unfulfilled pledges concerning automatic postings for healthcare workers and teachers.
Reaffirming his commitment to accountability, Dr. Bawumia assured supporters and delegates that the NPP is already mapping out its future governance agenda. He called on party members to remain united and focused on offering Ghanaians a viable, transparent alternative to restore economic stability and national integrity.
