45 aspirants clash as 7,163 NPP delegates vote in Kumasi

A total of 7,163 delegates representing all 16 regions of Ghana are converging on the iconic Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) highly anticipated National Delegates Congress and Officers’ Elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, elect its national executives at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. About 7,100 delegates from across the country are expected to vote in the elections, which will be supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC). The EC confirmed that all preparations have been completed, with ballot papers and other essential election materials already deployed to the Ashanti Region. The newly elected executives will work alongside flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who won the party's presidential primary in January 2026, ahead of the 2028 general election.

Voting Arrangements

The party has established 31 voting centers inside the stadium. Twenty-one centers are designated for the main national executive positions (National Chairperson, Vice-Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Organizer, and National Treasurer), while 10 centers are allocated for wing elections (5 for Youth, 3 for Women, and 2 for Nasara). No more than 400 delegates will vote at any single center.

NPP Director of Elections Evans Nimako stated that a simulation exercise has already been conducted in coordination with the police and the EC.

Voting will commence following constitutional business, which includes considering proposed amendments regarding party leadership designation, the election and appointment of additional vice-chairpersons, the appointment of deputy communications officers, and making the IT officer position an executive role. Voting is expected to begin around midday.

The EC has cautioned delegates that taking photographs of marked ballot papers constitutes an electoral offense. Delegates will be required to verify their identities using a party membership card, voter ID, or Ghana Card.
